Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychdynamic therapy for symptom management, understanding triggers, support and validation, enhancing quality of life, and more.

An authentic and honest exploration of feelings in psychodynamic therapy.

If any of these sound like you:

  • You wish there was somebody who could tell you why you always feel overshadowed by your siblings, no matter how much you achieve on your own.
  • You wish there was somebody who could explain why even small criticisms make you feel as though you are not good enough.
  • You wish there was somebody who could understand why you keep your emotions so guarded, fearing that opening up will lead to betrayal or hurt.
  • You wish there was somebody who could tell you why you feel a deep sense of loneliness, even when you are surrounded by people who care about you.
  • You wish there was somebody who could help you understand why you fall into the same patterns in your relationships, constantly seeking approval and fearing abandonment.
  • You wish there was somebody who could guide you to uncover the root of your persistent anxiety about seemingly unthreatful situations.

Psychodynamic therapy could be right for you.

We provide psychodynamic therapy to help with…

Understanding Deep-Seated Emotional Issues:

Psychodynamic therapy delves into an individual’s past to uncover the root causes of their present behaviors and emotional issues. This therapeutic approach focuses on exploring unresolved conflicts and past experiences that may influence current relationships and behavior patterns. By bringing these subconscious motivations into conscious awareness, clients can better understand and address the sources of their distress. This deeper insight allows for a more comprehensive understanding of oneself, including why certain patterns keep recurring in one’s life, which is crucial for profound emotional healing.

Enhancing Self-Awareness and Emotional Intelligence:

Psychodynamic therapy encourages individuals to explore their inner selves and become more attuned to their emotional responses and thoughts. Through sessions that emphasize reflection and exploration, clients learn to recognize and articulate their feelings and motivations more clearly. This enhanced self-awareness leads to greater emotional intelligence, enabling individuals to manage their emotions more effectively, respond to interpersonal situations with better understanding, and make decisions that are more aligned with their true desires and needs. Over time, this can lead to significant improvements in personal relationships, professional interactions, and overall mental health.

Resolving Internal Conflicts and Improving Mental Health:

Psychodynamic therapy is particularly effective in addressing internal conflicts that surface as mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and personality disorders. By examining the interplay between various parts of the personality and their influence on behavior, this approach helps individuals reconcile internal conflicts and develop healthier ways to relate to themselves and others. Through the therapeutic relationship, clients experience a corrective emotional experience that can transform negative patterns and promote psychological growth and stability.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, if you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual. We tailor our therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

We are so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication is crucial to your success. After all, we only see each other for a session a week. It’s the work you do outside of our sessions that will really help you see your personal growth and development.

My partner and I are having problems. Should we be in individual counseling or come together?

If you are concerned about your relationship, and you would both like to work with us, we would initially work with both of you together. After this work, if one of you would like to continue in individual sessions, we could work with only one of you. It is not helpful to move from individual into couple’s work with the same therapist because of potential trust issues.
